Why Colorado wood needs specialty prep

Fort Collins sits at 5,000 ft with some of the harshest UV in the country, and our humidity routinely drops below 20%. That combination fades stain, splits boards, and lifts old finishes faster than almost anywhere else. Skipping the strip-and-sand step means the new coat bonds to failing stain — and peels the next season.

Our fence & deck staining process

  • Deep-clean pressure wash
  • Chemical strip of failed stain
  • Full sand to bare wood
  • Board replacement & popped-nail fixes
  • Premium UV-resistant stain (2 coats)
  • Semi-transparent, semi-solid, or solid finish
  • Cedar, redwood, pine & composite railings
  • Full jobsite cleanup

The stains we use

We default to Sherwin-Williams SuperDeck and Benjamin Moore Arborcoat for their UV blockers and mildew resistance — both formulated to handle Colorado's freeze-thaw cycles without cracking or peeling.

How much does fence & deck staining cost in Fort Collins?

Deck staining in Fort Collins typically runs $3–$6 per square foot including full prep. A standard 300 sq ft backyard deck lands between $1,200 and $1,800. Fence staining averages $2–$4 per linear foot depending on height and condition.
